The Cost of Discipleship

Things that are important are rarely easy. Sometimes we must choose to give up things we want now to answer a higher calling for the future. Jesus spoke of this when He said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” Mark 8:34-36

It might be more fun to meet friends for dinner, spend Saturdays shopping, and attend special events, but maybe this season calls you to something different. What profit is it to enjoy the present if it means you must forfeit the future God has designed for you? There is a price to be paid to follow Christ, but you get so much back in return! What has God called you to during this season of your life?  Worship that costs you nothing will be worth nothing.
